Roof Edge Railing Options

Non-Penetrating Roof Edge Railing

Non-penetrating guardrail systems provide reliable fall protection without the need to drill into the roof surface, preserving roof integrity while ensuring safety.

Designed for quick installation and long-term durability, these guardrails create a secure barrier along roof edges, walkways, and other high-risk areas. Their modular design allows for flexibility across different roof layouts, making them an ideal solution for both new construction and retrofit projects.

By eliminating the need for rooftop penetration, they help prevent leaks and reduce maintenance costs, offering building owners peace of mind and compliance with safety regulations.

Post-Weight Roof Edge Railing

Non-penetrating guardrail systems with recycled PVC post-weights are ideal for protecting narrow spaces and tight roof edges where traditional guardrails often won’t fit.

Their compact bases safeguard the roof surface from penetrations and sharp edges, while the system’s flexibility allows it to be installed around HVAC units, ductwork, and other obstacles.

This makes them a practical, low-maintenance solution for ensuring rooftop safety without compromising roof integrity or usable space.

Parapet Mounted Roof Edge Guardrail

A parapet roof railing offers a durable and customizable safety solution designed to protect both workers and building occupants.

Made from galvanized steel, it provides long-lasting corrosion resistance, ensuring the system performs reliably for years. Its modular components allow the railing to be tailored to fit the unique layout of any roof, while multiple mounting options make installation straightforward and adaptable to different structures.

Beyond meeting essential safety standards, parapet railings are designed to blend with a building’s aesthetic, creating a secure, compliant, and visually cohesive rooftop environment.

Wall-Mounted Roof Edge Railing

A wall-mounted roof edge railing is the ideal solution when space is limited for non-penetrating guardrails or when a parapet isn’t available for mounting.

Designed with a secure wall attachment, this system ensures reliable fall protection without taking up valuable rooftop space or compromising roof integrity.

Made from galvanized steel, it delivers long-lasting corrosion resistance, while its modular design allows for easy customization to fit unique roof layouts. The result is a durable, space-efficient safety system that meets compliance standards and maintains a clean, professional appearance.

Standing Seam Roof Edge Railing

A standing seam metal roof railing provides secure fall protection without compromising the integrity of your roof.

Using specialized clamps that attach directly to the seams, the system eliminates the need for penetration, keeping the roof fully sealed against the elements. Its universal clamp design allows the railing to fit most standing seam roof profiles without requiring custom engineering, making installation both efficient and reliable.

The result is a durable, non-invasive safety solution that maintains roof performance while ensuring compliance with safety standards.

OSHA Guardrail Requirements

Applicable OSHA Codes

Here is a list of the OSHA codes and requirements that are important for fall protection guardrail.

Federal OSHA General Industry
General Industry codes cover every employment location unless there exist an industry specific code, like with Construction.

  • 1910.28 - Duty to have fall protection and falling object protection.
  • 1910.29 - Fall protection systems and falling object protection - criteria and practices.

Federal OSHA Construction Code
Construction codes apply to work for construction, alteration, and/or repair, including painting and decorating.

  • 1926.500 - Scope, application, and definitions applicable to this subpart.
  • 1926.501 - Duty to have fall protection.
  • 1926.502 - Fall protection systems criteria and practices.

When installing guardrail, whether for General Industry or for Construction, there are some common standards that need to be complied with. Those standards are:

  • Every guardrail must be 42 inches in height. In General Industry, you have a +/- 3 inch allowance.
  • The top rail must withstand a force of 200 pounds.
  • You must have a midrail halfway between the top rail and the walking/working surface so that a 19 inch sphere cannot pass through the guardrail.
  • The midrail must withstand a force of 150 pounds.
  • Fall protection guardrail is needed when you can fall into dangerous equipment or the fall is equal to or greater than 4 feet in General Industry and 6 feet in Construction.
